Giorgio Luminous Silk Foundation – If it’s good enough for Kim K, it’s good enough for me? Right?…

Hello Everyone!

So I finally gave into the hype that is Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation. Despite the little dip in my bank balance, do I think it’s worth it? Yes and no.

Yes because at the end of the day, it’s a pretty bloody good Foundation. For reference, my skin type is the definition of combination, I have a oily t-zone, but normal forehead, dry cheeks which usually suck up all moisture and makeup in the first second of applying products, and I have sensitive skin in general.

So Lumious Silk has a velvet to matte finish, it’s not that Luminous, but once my oils start to pop through, it does look more brightening. The fact that it is quite matte, means I don’t feel the need to powder and also it really long lasting and keeps the oily shine at bay. The first day I wore it at work, I got the stage in the day where I felt like I should powder, but when I looked in the mirror I really didn’t! Which I was so surprised at! I must point out though, that I prefer a dewy finish, so those who like a completely matte/velvet finish would probably have powdered.

Since it is quite matte, I can be drying, so I feel I need to moisturise a tad bit more on my dryer bits, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend to those with really dry skin, unless you apply a nice lumious and hydrating moisturiser/primer underneath. For those with oilier complextions, I’d say it’s perfect.

It’s not the highest coverage, but buildable and nothing a bit of concealer can’t aid. It blends and sets beautifully, when applied with both brushes and sponges. Both powder and creme products sit well with it too.

Okay so why I don’t think it’s good. Mainly for the price point. £40 for a Foundation is pretty steep. Especially when there are so many other good foundations, like the Nars Lumious Weightless Foundation that’s fab. If you want a more long lasting, matte finish, then MAC’s Pro Longwear Foundation is great. If you want an even cheaper alternative, then L’Oreal’s Infalliable Pro-Matte Foundation is a good high street dupe.

Will I repurchase? Not sure, I mean I do really really love the foundation, but I just feel £40 a go is just so expensive and I still love the Nars one.

As a side note, I bought this foundation from the Giorgio Armani Counter in Selfridges, London, and I was so disappointed in the service. I asked for a colour match and she literally jsut dabbed a tiny amount of two colours onto by jaw with a cotton bud. No blending in etc. And she didn’t give her opinion, and made me blend it with my fingers. Which wasn’t ideal because I had been on the tube, which we all know isn’t the cleanest place on earth. She was quite blunt too and didn’t offer any other products to try. I could understand her rush to get rid of me if it was busy, but it was midweek and it really was not busy. I couldn’t help but compare the service I had from Nars in Liberty, who I’ve always found to be lovely ladies and really enthusiastic about the brand, the make up artist took all my base off, and moisturised, primed, applied Foundation, powder, bronzer and blush etc. I wasn’t booked I for an appointment and she did the same with my friend. Since she did this, we ended up both buying more than just the foundation and feeling very impressed with Nars. If I ever need/ want to buy soemthing for Nars, I head straight to Liberty for their service. I definitely won’t be returning to the Selfridges GA counter.

Anyway! Let me know your thoughts on GA Luminous Silk and whether you think it’s worth the £40!

Lots of love

Alice xx

  1. Another great review! Great customer service definitely made a difference (I guess we both know that haha). Really shocked at the treatment you received at Selfridges, I had the exact same foundation experience when I was in HK at a Japanese brand counter and that put me off forever to shop for foundation in HK!
I like Nars products and would probably try Liberty next time I m there now you recommended them 🙂

    1. Hahah yeah we definitely know about customer service!! Yeah I know!! I was too! You’d have thought by working for such a prestigious brand and in Selfridges that you’d be better at selling a product!! Liberty is faaaaab!!!! Xx
